Osceola Mills Man Waives Hearing in DUI, Drug Case

CLEARFIELD – An Osceola Mills man has been accused of driving under the influence and being in possession of methamphetamine, marijuana and pills.

Chase C. Conway, 28, has been charged by Trooper Andrew S. Mills of the Clearfield-based state police with felony manufacture, delivery or possession with intent to manufacture or deliver and flight to avoid apprehension.

He’s also been charged with misdemeanor intentional possession of a controlled substance, use/possession of drug paraphernalia, DUI-controlled substance, resisting arrest and false identification to law enforcement officer, plus two summaries.

Conway waived his right to a preliminary hearing Wednesday during centralized court at the Clearfield County Jail. Bail has been set at $25,000.

According to the affidavit of probable cause, on June 12, Mills, along with Trooper Zachary O. Moran, responded to reports of an impaired driver at McAteer Village in Woodward Township.

The same male driver had also been found passed out in his driver’s seat at the Fuel-On store, which is located on Elizabeth Street in Houtzdale Borough.

A witness said the male had been passed out for an extended period of time, and when he woke up, he began driving toward the McAteer Village apartment complex.

The troopers located his red Ford F-150 there in the parking lot area, and it was still running. The male was observed in the driver’s seat, where he was reportedly passed out and sweating profusely.

When he was awoken by Mills and Moran, he was requested to provide identification. He related he didn’t have any on him and claimed his name was “Chase Couturiaux.”

When Mills ran his information, the driver’s license photograph for “Chase Couturiaux” didn’t appear to be the male. He was subsequently requested to perform multiple field sobriety tests, during which he reportedly displayed signs of impairment.

Afterwards, Mills requested for consent to search the male’s vehicle, which he denied. He was instructed to put his hands behind his back, and when Mills attempted to cuff him, he reportedly began running.

Mills said he ran for a short distance until he tripped and was taken to the ground by Moran in the process. Because he still refused to listen, Mills said he had to deploy his taser in order for them to take the male into custody.

While being transported to the Clearfield Penn Highlands Hospital, the male allegedly admitted that he’d recently used methamphetamine. His vehicle was also towed to the Clearfield barracks.

At the hospital, the male continued to use the name “Chase Couturiaux.” However, after a blood draw, Mills learned his correct name was Chase Craig Conway, which was confirmed through a query for his driver’s license photograph.

Mills also learned there were multiple warrants for Conway for drug-related offenses. Conway allegedly admitted he’d been lying to troopers about his identify, and he was housed in county jail.

A drug-detection K-9 trooper later alerted during an exterior search of Conway’s Ford F-150, and a search warrant was subsequently prepared and obtained through Magisterial District Judge Mike Morris.

On June 13, a search yielded suspected methamphetamine, oxycodone and buprenorphine pills and marijuana; a digital scale; several clear, plastic bags; multiple glass smoking pipes containing residue and a pill crusher.

The suspected methamphetamine and marijuana were both NIK-tested and showed positive for both drugs, according to the affidavit.

Conway’s blood is being sent for toxicology analysis and the drug-related evidence is also being sent to the state police’s Erie Regional Crime Laboratory for further analysis.

CLEARFIELD– A DuBois man pleaded guilty to six counts of arson Friday during sentencing court.

Brady Dillon-Michael Burkett, 24, was sentenced to 13 months to three years in state prison by President Judge Fredric J. Ammerman.

He must also pay $15,000 in restitution.

The charges stem from incidents beginning in February of 2018, when police and fire departments responded to six mobile home fires and one shed fire in the Timetobid Road area in Sandy Township.

Prior to sentencing, Burkett told Ammerman that he is “not a bad person” and that he was sorry.

According to the affidavit of probable cause, the first fire on Feb. 16, 2018 at 19 Timetobid Rd., was at a vacant trailer that spread to a shed and then to an occupied trailer. It caused damage in excess of $15,000.

More fires followed in the next few months with all of them determined to be arson.

After the last incident on May 30, 2018, it was discovered that Burkett was seen outside of the residence just prior to the fire, police said.

Burkett was also seen on surveillance footage obtained from a camera installed in the area.

In the footage, police saw a man walk from the area of 32 Timetobid Rd., which is Burkett’s address, to the scene of the fire and then back again.

When he was interviewed by police, Burkett reportedly confessed to entering the residence and using a lighter to ignite a couch cushion.

He then confessed to starting all the fires in the neighborhood.

On the date of the first fire, he said he was shooting bottle rockets when one of the rockets entered the shed and started a fire, which he said he tried to put out. It spread to an unoccupied trailer and then to an occupied trailer, he said.

When this happened, Burkett said he alerted the elderly lady in the second trailer and called 911.

The other fires were set by lighting various items including, bubble wrap, clothing, manila folders and grass, according to the report.

CLEARFIELD – A Philipsburg man accused of sending an obscene video to a teen girl was sentenced to state prison Friday.

Hunter Thomas Harris, 25, pleaded guilty to felony counts of obscene materials, unlawful contact with a minor as well as a misdemeanor count of corruption of minors.

He was sentenced by President Judge Fredric J. Ammerman to one to three years in state prison.

This sentence will run concurrent with a probation revocation sentence he received in August of two to six years in state prison.

Harris must comply with all conditions of Megan’s Law and will complete the Project Point of Light program.

According to the affidavit, in May of 2018, police responded to a report of a 15-year-old Cooper Township girl receiving messages and explicit images from Harris through Snapchat.

Harris originally contacted her through Facebook messenger and only responded “ughh lol” when she told him she was 16 years old.

After they connected on Snapchat, he asked her to send him photos with her top off. Instead, she sent him some old photos from Facebook.

He then sent her three photos of himself, two of which were naked shots. Next, he sent her a sexual video.

This led to the victim telling her step-mother who then called police.

In an interview with investigators, Harris admitted to sending her the photos and video.

CLEARFIELD – A Clearfield man will spend time in state prison for possessing methamphetamine.

Marcus Homer Waltmon, 40, pleaded guilty in two different cases to felony possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance-methamphetamine during sentencing court Friday.

President Judge Fredric J. Ammerman sentenced him to two to five years in state prison.

According to the affidavit of probable cause in the first case, on April 26, 2018, officers pulled over a vehicle Waltmon was traveling in, for having an expired inspection sticker.

There was an odor of marijuana coming from the car, but all three occupants denied having any marijuana.

When they were removed from the vehicle, police found several items where Waltmon had been sitting including a large zip-up pouch containing 12 grams of methamphetamine, and other bags that contained meth, a scale and paraphernalia.

In the second case, on Oct. 17, police found Waltmon in possession of 10 bags of meth, two containers of marijuana, a pricing sheet, scales and money after a search warrant was executed on his residence on Stewart Avenue.

Man Facing Charges for Allegedly Strangling, Assaulting Woman in Sandy Twp.

DUBOIS – A man is facing charges for allegedly strangling and assaulting a woman at a Sandy Township residence.

Joseph Cole Snyder, 29, whose address is listed as San Angelo, Texas, was charged with felony strangulation, two misdemeanor counts of terroristic threats, simple assault, institutional vandalism and resisting arrest, as well as two counts of summary harassment by Sandy Township police in connection to an incident on June 21.

According to the affidavit of probable cause, when police arrived on the scene, the victim approached their vehicle and told the officers that her grandfather was still in the residence restraining Snyder, who had attacked her.

She was shaking uncontrollably, and had blood on her hands and clothing.

As the officers then went into home through an open front door, they noticed the door jamb was lying on the floor in the living room where two disheveled men were standing.

The older one who had blood on his clothes, advised the police that the other man, Snyder, had choked and held a knife to the throat of his granddaughter after taking her to the floor.

Snyder was placed in handcuffs because he reportedly appeared to be under the influence of something. He resisted the officers trying to get him to a police vehicle and allegedly kicked the side of the car, causing a dent.

When the officers spoke with the victim, she explained she had been in a relationship with Snyder and was at the residence to retrieve a few items from the home.

She showed them a text-message in which she asked to be able to pick up items. In a response text, he reportedly threatened that if she came to the house, he would expect her to have sex with him and if she wasn’t willing, he would rape her.

She went to the residence anyway, taking her grandfather with her.

After Snyder refused to answer her repeated knocking on the door, she was able to get into the home through an open window, she told the officers.

When Snyder saw her, he allegedly attacked her by grabbing her around the throat, closing off her airway, she explained.

He then held a knife to her throat and threatened to kill her before striking her head off the wall and tightening his pressure on her neck, according to the complaint.

She told investigators she was able to break free and to defend herself, as Snyder punched her in the face and head before they fell to the floor.

He once again reportedly put her in a choke hold and said: “I will kill you, put your body in the floor.”

They separated, and then he shoved her and pulled her hair.

After she said she was leaving and taking the dogs, he allegedly tackled her to the floor, threatened to kill her and put her in a choke hold again.

At this point, her grandfather broke down the door and held Snyder until police arrived.

In his interview with police, the grandfather gave the same story but added that Snyder was threatening to kill him as well.

He explained he only broke down the door because he was afraid Snyder was going to kill his granddaughter. He also stated he was “scared as [expletive].”

Snyder was taken to the county jail and his bail set at $100,000. According to court documents, he posted bail on June 22.

Snyder’s preliminary hearing is scheduled for July 12 during centralized court at District Judge Pat Ford’s office.

CLEARFIELD – A 46-year-old Brockway woman, Melissa D. Reitz, is wanted for skipping court in her Clearfield County drug case, announced District Attorney William A. Shaw Jr. on Tuesday.

On Jan. 8, 2018, Cpl. Matthew Robertson of the DuBois City police charged Reitz with felony manufacture, delivery or possession with intent to manufacture or deliver and dealing in proceeds of unlawful activity.

Robertson also charged Reitz with misdemeanor intentional possession of a controlled substance, use/possession of drug paraphernalia and receiving stolen property, plus summary retail theft.

Upon arrival on-scene, contact was made with Reitz, a suspect in a retail theft, and she reportedly began to remove stolen merchandise from her purse.

When an initial search was done on Reitz’s purse, police found a bag containing a white crystalized substance, and Reitz was subsequently transported to the police station.

Further search allegedly uncovered 155 grams of methamphetamine that was packaged in five, separate bags; a digital scale; numerous plastic baggies; over $7,000; and an envelope with two names, dollar amounts and the word “owes.”

Reitz is described as being a Caucasian female who stands 5 feet, 4 inches tall. She has blonde hair and green eyes.

When she was taken into custody, a search of Gillingham’s person and property turned up syringes, one spoon with residue and multiple plastic bags with residue, Cowan said. She was subsequently lodged in county jail.

After police departed from the jail, a call was received to return because Gillingham was found with contraband. She allegedly had a plastic bottle hidden in her undergarments/shorts area that contained buprenorphine and crystal methamphetamine.

Woodland Man Waives Hearing in Drug, Child Endangerment Case

CLEARFIELD – A Woodland man is facing charges for allegedly not supervising his young daughter and taking marijuana into the Clearfield County Jail.

Raymond M. Nestlerode, 37, has been charged by Trooper Brian A. Elensky Sr. of the Clearfield-based state police with felony contraband/controlled substance and endangering the welfare of children.

He’s also been charged with misdemeanor marijuana-small amount personal use, use/possession of drug paraphernalia and recklessly endangering another person.

Nestlerode waived his right to a preliminary hearing Wednesday during centralized court at the jail. His bail is set at $50,000.

The charges stem from an incident June 1 when a report was received about a one-year-old walking in the middle of Main Street in Bradford Township without any supervision, according to the affidavit of probable cause.

When Elensky arrived shortly after 11 a.m., he saw the girl who was wearing only a T-shirt and diaper. She was standing with a woman who said she found the girl in the roadway and saw a motorist nearly strike her.

Because she thought she knew where the girl lived, she went to the home before calling state police. She said she knocked loudly for an extended period, but no one ever answered the door.

Elensky and another trooper went back to the residence and found an open door. The interior was reportedly very dirty and messy, and it appeared as though there had been a crime, such as a burglary or home invasion.

The troopers shouted loudly for several minutes, as well as banged on the open door. Eventually, they heard a low, raspy voice of a male coming from upstairs.

They asked the male to come down to speak with them concerning the girl. Elensky said it took several minutes before he made it down; when he did, he came across as sluggish and disoriented.

The male, now identified as Nestlerode, was reportedly “disheveled” and looked as though he’d just woken up. Nestlerode said he was the girl’s father and her caretaker at the time.

He claimed they had been upstairs together; however, Elensky advised the girl was found in the middle of Main Street and had nearly been struck by a car.

When Elensky asked Nestlerode how long it’d been since he’d seen his daughter, he was unable to provide an answer and reportedly became insulting and hostile.

When he turned around, Elensky saw a syringe containing a drug tangled in Nestlerode’s hair, according to the affidavit. They subsequently seized the syringe and placed Nestlerode under arrest.

Troopers proceeded to search Nestlerode for any additional drugs and paraphernalia. When nothing was found during the search, he was asked if he had anything; he said no and was warned of the consequences of taking drugs into the jail.

During his transport, Elensky said Nestlerode became very agitated, cussing and threatening lawsuits. He said Nestlerode didn’t show any concern for the safety or well-being of his daughter.

At the jail, Nestlerode was searched again by staff and found in possession of a small, plastic bag of suspected marijuana in his pants pocket.

Woman Accused of Setting Motel Room on Fire Waives Hearing

DUBOIS – A woman accused of setting a motel room on fire waived her right to a preliminary hearing Friday during centralized court in DuBois.

Lisa Marie Williams, 37, whose address is listed as the DuBois Manor Motel, is charged with arson, reckless burning, risking a catastrophe and criminal mischief, all felonies. She is being held in the county jail in lieu of $50,000 bail.

The charges stem from an incident on June 26 at the motel.

According to the affidavit of probable cause, when police arrived on the scene, the fire in the room rented by Williams was out, but they could see the bed and covers were severely burned along with the floor and walls.

Williams claimed she did not know what happened because she stayed the night in another room where she and a man drank until the early-morning hours.

She reportedly stated that she did not even know that her room had been on fire until she heard people talking just 15 minutes before the police arrived.

Her friend told police that they were drinking in her room when she got angry and threw a chair.

At about 1 a.m., this witness reportedly said she lit the comforter on the bed on fire. He said he saw the flame and smoke, asked her what she was doing and then went to his room.

She later showed up at his room and spent the night there.

Around 7:30 a.m., when he woke up, she asked him to go to her room to see how much damage had been done, he explained to police.

After he saw the damage, he went back to his room and told Williams that she “did some damage.”

This witness also said the lighter she used was with her pack of cigarettes in his room. Police were able to take it into evidence.

He also mentioned that he had text-messaged a friend about the situation, commenting that she shouldn’t be surprised if he ended up in jail because a woman he met the night before had “torched” her room.

Photos of the texts were also taken as evidence.

In another interview with Williams, she was advised of what investigators had discovered. She then changed her story multiple times, always saying that nothing was on fire.

In her final statement, she said when she threw the chair, she knocked a hot ash off a cigarette that fell to an unknown location.

She claimed that she could smell something burning but couldn’t find anything. After 15 minutes of looking for the source, she left and went to the other motel room, she stated, according to the complaint.

A fire marshal’s report on the physical evidence confirmed what the witness had told police that the source of the fire was a direct flame on the comforter that burned up the side and across the top of the bed.

Damage to the room was estimated by the owner to exceed $5,000.
